But be very careful with the “slow speech rate”. It’s true that if you talk too fast people will have trouble understanding you. But being a “slow talker” can drive people crazy. People sometimes interpret this as being condescending, or they just think there is something wrong with your thought process. Often you can tell that you are talking too slowly when the other person starts talking faster and faster. People often do this either consciously or unconsciously in an attempt to get the other person to speed up. Sometimes the other person will become visibly impatient, tapping their foot, making hand gestures that indicate you should hurry up, looking around for an escape route, etc. When someone is impatient with you, they are not listening to your message.
